About Us
Keeping family in the picture
At Platypus Lodge, we believe that our young people with complex needs
benefit from the ongoing support of family and friends.
Finding a balance where we can stay involved
and also pursue other, personal goals and aspirations
makes life better for everyone.
Building a community of support so that responsibilities are shared
ensures the best possible outcomes and makes family life joyful and rewarding.

Our Story
Platypus Lodge was inspired by Ethan, a gorgeous young man with a winning smile, Autism and ID, a love of music, dance, a good pot of tea and a swim.
His family wanted to provide something better than a group home for him.
They wanted to give him the 'share house' experience that his typically developing peers would expect to have but with all the support he would need to keep him safe.
With the financial assistance of his grandparents, Roly & Silvia,
a beautiful 6 bedroom property in Oatley was purchased and furnished.
The Lodge as we now call it, is the first property in the portfolio
with more to come in the near future.

Next, they wanted to create activities so that he could
meet other young people and build his circle of friends.
Day programs were crowded and inflexible. They wanted something better.
Something that gave him and his friends options
for how they might want to spend their day.
Our Karaoke Dance Party for 18-35's with support needs
is scheduled to commence in February 2025!
Meet The Team
Our Board has more than 50 years combined experience in
business management, community development, disability service provision, social housing, hospitality and the arts.
We are ably supported by advisors and contractors in
governance, accounting, human resources, information technology, legal and compliance matters.

A central tenant of our model is for our participants and their family members
to be involved in the governance of the organisation and the services that we provide.
